Petal is a private, on-device notes app. We do not require an account. We do not collect, sell or share personal information. We do not run analytics, advertising SDKs, trackers, or device fingerprinting. Everything you create stays on your device unless you choose to share it.
None. Petal does not transmit your notes, attachments, voice memos, photos, location, contacts, identifiers or usage data to us or any third party. We do not have servers that store your content.
Notes, folders, tags, voice memos, photos, captured images and attached files are stored locally in Petal's private app storage on your device. They are removed when you delete the note, clear the app's data, or uninstall Petal.
Why: so you can take a photo and attach it to a note from inside Petal. When: only while you actively tap the camera action and the system camera is open. What happens to the photo: it is saved into Petal's private app storage on your device and attached to your note. It is not uploaded, analyzed, scanned, or sent to any server. There is no face recognition, no biometric processing, and no AI training on your images. You can revoke this permission any time in Settings › Apps › Petal › Permissions. Petal will continue to work; only the in-app camera capture will be unavailable.
Why: so you can record a voice memo and attach it to a note. When: only while you are actively holding/tapping the record control. Recording stops the moment you release it or leave the screen. What happens to the audio: the file is saved into Petal's private app storage on your device. It is not uploaded, transcribed by us, analyzed, or sent to any server. There is no background listening and no always-on audio. You can revoke this permission any time in Settings › Apps › Petal › Permissions.
When you tap to attach an image or file, Android opens its system picker (Photo Picker / Storage Access Framework). Petal only receives the specific item you choose. Petal does not request broad gallery or storage permissions and cannot read your photos or files in the background.
Petal does not request the device location permission. If you tap the "Place" action and type or paste a location, that text is stored only inside the note on your device. We do not access GPS or network location.
Petal does not read your contacts, call log or messages. When you tap Share, WhatsApp, Messages or Call, Android hands the action to that other app and you choose what is sent. Petal never sends anything on your behalf.
The Internet permission is declared so the system share sheet, link previews and your chosen apps can function. Petal itself does not make network calls to send your content out. Any network traffic only happens because you tapped Share into another app.
None. Petal contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs, no crash reporters that ship personal data, and no third-party trackers. We do not use Google Advertising ID, no SDKs for Facebook, AppsFlyer, Firebase Analytics or similar.
When you copy, share, send to WhatsApp / Messages, or call from a note, your content is handed to the destination app or contact at your explicit request. Once it leaves Petal it is governed by that app's own privacy policy.
Your notes live in Petal's private, sandboxed app storage, which is protected by Android from access by other apps. We recommend keeping a device lock (PIN, pattern, biometric) enabled, since anyone with physical access to an unlocked device can open Petal.
Petal is suitable for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in regions where that is the applicable age). Because Petal collects no personal data at all, no child-specific data is collected either.
Because Petal stores your data only on your device and we do not receive any of it, there is nothing for us to access, correct, port, restrict, or delete on our side. You exercise these rights directly: edit or delete any note inside the app, or clear all data via Settings › Apps › Petal › Storage › Clear data, or uninstall the app. We do not sell or "share" personal information as defined by the CCPA / CPRA.
None performed by Petal. Your data does not leave your device through us.
If this policy changes we will update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, surface a notice in the app on next launch.
